The raw lightning data is examined once per
minute to arrive at the data displayed in the Analysis window. This window is our
best guess at determining exactly where storms are located. While no single-detector
system can give an exact measurement of how far away a storm is located, we think that our
storm ranging algorithm does an excellent job. The positional uncertainty in the
storm ranging is represented by the "length" of the box that represents the
storm. Storms with lots of strokes can be ranged more accurately, therefore their
boxes will have a more "squat" appearance.
